When You Are Absent From Class

The university's policy on class attendance is clear and straightforward: students are expected to attend classes except under extraordinary circumstances. However, from time to time, illness, family obligations, or other personal circumstances may prevent you from attending class. These are unexcused absences. If you have missed a class, or know in advance that you will be missing a class, the first thing you should do is speak to your professor and find out what you should do to make up for the absences. Remember that the professor's policy on class attendance applies to unexcused absences. Campus Life is typically not involved in negotiating unexcused absences.

The only excused absences are absences caused by participation in events at which a student is representing the University (athletics, chorus, band, national or state meetings of organizations represented at TCU). In this case, the faculty sponsor of the event should contact Campus Life with a list of all students participating in the event. Campus Life then sends this list to faculty so that they are aware of the excused absence.

If you have difficulties or questions concerning a particular situation, you may contact Campus Life at 817-257-7926.
